Sunflowers Room - Pre School Nursery Sheffield

Sunflowers Pre School Room 3-5s Age Group

Welcome to our Preschool where we focus on learning through play to support children to develop their own ideas, make links between ideas and find new ways to do things. These are all valuable skills children will need when moving on to school.

In preschool we focus on supporting our children to become prepared in readiness for their transition to school. We teach and support our children to feel confident and secure in their learning, ensuring that their next journey  on their education pathway is a natural one.

Children in preschool learn to be able to communicate their needs and wants. They begin to become more sociable  and enjoy playing and exploring  with their peers. We encourage children to introduce their own thoughts and ideas to an activity and this is supported by staff to scaffold their learning along with exciting resources giving endless learning opportunities.

Children are supported and encouraged to become active learner’s where they show an interest in the world around them understanding equality and diversity and  are able to extend their own values by asking questions and consider how and why things happen.

Children are supported to be confident in themselves promoting good mental health and well-being. We encourage children to explore with ‘wonder’ to realise their full potential. Develop different ways of thinking to be able to negotiate, problem solve and manage feelings.

Developing and mastering self help and independence skills is a key focus in preschool. This is achieved through small focus group learning and individual learning tasks. There is a great team spirit in our preschool and all our children are keen to help each other.

Our daily routine in preschool is very focused on our children’s interests and is flexible so that children have time to achieve their desired goals. We also ensure children are given time to reflect on their learning so they can take pride in their achievements.

As children begin to develop their friendships in preschool  they are supported by our dedicated staff team who teach them how to mange conflict and disagreements in a positive way, which enables children to feel confident when moving onto school as well resolving challenging situations in their life experiences.

We use an inclusive approach involving children, parents, teachers, schools, education and health professionals to ensure  that the transition to school is a smooth one.  At Woodhouse Nursery  we feel proud knowing that  all our children leaving our nursery  to go to school have been given best support possible start in their education.

Our preschool room is for children aged 3-4 years and we operate a 1 adult to 8 children ratio where our staff have a wealth of knowledge and experience to support children to be ready for school.
